George-Greene Baptist

Missions History

The George-Greene Area Missions Program was begun on February 1, 1974 with Horace Glass, Director of Missions. At that time, two associations existed and Bro. Horace served the entire area of "George & Greene Counties."  The brick building and 2 acres of land was donated by members of Forest Hill Baptist Church, which had been closed for several years.

In 1991 Rev. John W. Henry became the Director of Missions.  The years of ministry were very productive for the work of the gospel.  Bro. John is still very active in many facets and in many ways in the GGBA.

In 2006, Rev. Jimmy Holcomb was called as the Associational Missions Director.  During Bro. Jimmy's tenure the Association restructured to a more contemporary approach of "Teams" for the purpose of enlarging both the missions and ministry of the GGBA.

Additional land has since been purchased and a new 4000 square foot building was built in 2005. The use of the building has grown with Seminary Extension classes, a Baptist Food Bank and VBS clinics. There are currently 34 Southern Baptist churches in the George-Greene Baptist Missions Program with nearly all giving to help support the work. The George/Greene Baptist Association of churches is a fellowship of Southern Baptist churches that have organized to facilitate mutual encouragement and cooperation in fulfilling the Great Commission of Jesus Christ.  There are presently 34 Southern Baptist Churches, 20 in Greene County and 14 in George. In October 2008, the George and Greene associations unanimously voted to merge into one association. The George/Greene Baptist Association of churches is a fellowship of Southern Baptist churches that have organized to facilitate mutual encouragement and cooperation in fulfilling the Great Commission of Jesus Christ.  There are presently 34 Southern Baptist Churches, 20 in Greene County and 13 in George. In January of 2016 a new chapter began for the GGBA mission with Dr. Jerry Watts being called as the AMD.  He comes to this position with a divine sense of call that we are "Better together than we are Separate."  His vision is to "Broker Unity for the Advancement of the Gospel.
